Ultrasonic: current status
Flexible packaging is a completely sealed bin of any shape and dimension.
Usually these bins are made of thin termoplastic polymer films.
The main characteristic is that these bin are made and sealed just after
filling by “FFS” (Form-Fill-Seal) automatic machines.
ILAPAK produce and sell all over the world "VFFS" packaging machines.
Generally, “VFFS” machines use a heat welding system with some hot bars to seal flexible packaging.
Heat sealing is made by two metal bars, heated at a certain, constant temperature.
These bars, pushed at high pressure against thermoplastic material parts, transfer heat to partial melting and, finally, to the welding.
Main plus of Ultrasonic system:
1. Very low percentage of not sealed packaging due to the product presence in welding area.
Due to ultrasonic waves, if the product is near the welding area, it will be removed automatically.
2. Saving on packaging raw material cost.
The welding line is much lower than the ones made by heat sealing (rough 2mm against 8-13mm).
3. Electric energy saving.
Heat sealing's hot bars has to be always at high temperature, while ultrasonic waves are activated only for actual welding time.
Energy consumption is 3-4 times less.
